Privacy Policy
Effective date: August 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Yoko Shiina (Sola Studio), operating Sola Journal ("Sola Journal," "we," "us," or "our"), handles personal information and other information in connection with the Sola Journal website and newsletter.
1. Scope
This Policy applies to information handled through:
- the Sola Journal website;
- the Sola Journal newsletter and its subscription process; and
- related communications concerning the website or newsletter.
Third-party websites linked from Sola Journal are governed by their own privacy policies.
2. Information We Handle
Newsletter information
When you subscribe to the Sola Journal newsletter, we handle:
- your email address;
- your subscription and unsubscribe status;
- the date and status of subscription-related activity;
- email delivery information, such as whether a message was sent, delivered, bounced, or reported as spam; and
- link-click information where click tracking is enabled for newsletter emails.
We do not currently use open tracking for the Sola Journal newsletter.
Website usage and technical information
Depending on your consent choices and the technologies involved, we or our service providers may handle technical and usage information such as:
- pages visited and interactions with the website;
- approximate location derived from an IP address;
- browser, device, operating-system, and language information;
- date, time, referring page, and similar usage information;
- IP address and request information processed for website delivery, security, and error handling; and
- cookie-consent preferences stored in your browser.
We do not use Google Analytics for advertising on Sola Journal.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to:
- process and confirm newsletter subscriptions;
- send new writing and occasional updates from Sola Journal;
- manage subscription preferences and unsubscribe requests;
- deliver, maintain, secure, and troubleshoot the website and newsletter;
- understand how the website is used, where analytics consent has been given; and
- comply with legal obligations and respond to misuse, security incidents, or valid legal requests.
We do not sell personal information.
4. Newsletter Subscription and Resend
Sola Journal uses Resend, operated by Plus Five Five, Inc., to send subscription-confirmation emails, manage newsletter contacts and preferences, and deliver newsletter emails.
Subscription uses a double opt-in process. After entering an email address, you must use the confirmation link sent to that address before the subscription becomes active. The confirmation link expires after 24 hours.
Confirmed subscribers are subscribed to the private Resend topic named English updates. Newsletter broadcasts are sent using this topic.
You may unsubscribe at any time using the unsubscribe link included in a newsletter. Resend allows you to unsubscribe from English updates or from all Sola Journal broadcasts. Unsubscribing changes your subscription status; it does not automatically delete your Resend contact record. We may retain your email address and unsubscribe status as reasonably necessary to respect and manage your choice. You may separately request deletion by contacting us.
Resend processes contact lists, message content, delivery information, subscription preferences, and related email activity on our behalf. Resend's primary processing operations take place in the United States, and information may also be processed by its authorized service providers in other locations. More information is available in Resend's Privacy Policy and Data Processing Addendum.
Sola Journal currently has click tracking enabled for emails sent through its Resend sending domain. This allows Resend and Sola Journal to record whether a link in an email was clicked. Open tracking is currently disabled. If these settings materially change, this Policy will be updated as appropriate.
5. Cookies, Consent, and Google Analytics
Sola Journal uses a cookie-consent tool to record and apply your consent choices. The tool may store those choices in a cookie, local storage, or a similar browser technology so that the website can remember them.
Sola Journal uses Google Analytics 4 with Google Consent Mode v2 for website usage analysis.
Before you make a choice, optional analytics and advertising consent states are set to denied. The Google Analytics tag may load before you make that choice. When analytics consent is denied, analytics cookies are not read or written, but Google may receive cookieless pings or similar non-cookie signals used by Consent Mode. When analytics consent is granted, Google Analytics may use cookies and similar identifiers to measure visits and interactions with the website.
Sola Journal does not currently use Google Analytics data for advertising or personalized advertising.
You can accept, reject, or adjust optional cookies through the consent interface. You can reopen the interface at any time using Cookie Settings in the website footer.
Google may process Analytics information in locations outside your country. Information about Google's handling of Analytics data is available in Google's Privacy Policy and Google Analytics data safeguards.
6. Website Hosting and External Content
We use external infrastructure and hosting providers to operate and deliver Sola Journal. Those providers may process IP addresses, request logs, error information, and similar technical data as necessary to deliver, secure, and maintain the website.
Sola Journal may display or link to articles and other material originally published through services such as Medium or note, including material obtained from RSS feeds and stored in Sola Journal's content database. Following a link to an external service means that service may collect information under its own privacy policy. Sola Journal does not control the privacy practices of external websites.
7. Sharing and External Processing
We do not disclose personal information to third parties except:
- to service providers where necessary to operate the website or newsletter;
- where you have requested or consented to the disclosure;
- where required or permitted by law;
- where reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety, or security; or
- in connection with a transfer or reorganization of the operation, subject to appropriate handling of the information.
Our service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country where you live.
8. Retention
We retain information only for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described in this Policy, including operation of the newsletter, management of consent and unsubscribe records, security, troubleshooting, and legal obligations.
Newsletter contact information may remain in Resend while the subscription is active. After unsubscribe, the email address and unsubscribe status may remain as necessary to prevent unwanted sending and maintain an accurate record of the request. If you request deletion, we will respond in accordance with applicable law, subject to information that must reasonably be retained for legal, security, or recordkeeping purposes.
Analytics, consent, delivery, and technical information is retained according to our settings, the relevant service provider's settings, and reasonable operational needs.
9. Security
We take reasonable organizational and technical measures appropriate to the nature and scale of Sola Journal to reduce the risk of unauthorized access, loss, misuse, alteration, or disclosure. No method of transmission or electronic storage is completely secure.
10. Your Choices and Requests
You may:
- unsubscribe from the newsletter using the link in any newsletter;
- change optional cookie choices through Cookie Settings; and
- contact us to request access to, correction of, or deletion of personal information associated with you, where applicable.
We may need to verify a request before acting on it. Some information may be retained where required or permitted by law or where reasonably necessary to preserve security or an unsubscribe record.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy when Sola Journal's features, service providers, settings, or legal obligations change. The updated Policy will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
